Miss Hutchins Takes the 2nd Grade Stage...

My Student Teaching Low Down

SO MY FIRST PLACEMENT is 8 Weeks in 2nd grade.

Week one was actually counted last week as we had orientation: Set up the classroom, participated in PD, met with our grade level teams to collaboratively plan the first week of school assessments and activities/long range plans for each subject area, refreshed grade levels on common core standards, and went over my Teacher Work Sample expectrations.  Usually week one is for observation of the classroom with student of how the master teacher runs her classroom and manages everything that comes her way.  But because of the time crunch and the week long holiday break I will jump right in and on the first week of actual teaching it was my 2nd week first I observed part of the week popping in here and there but always being seen as an authority figure which is important.   Then the second half I modeled and described what it looks like to be a good listener, implemented a birthday activity to end the week as well as a few Spelling Inventories.

Week Three: I will be teaching Writer's Workshop, Guded Reading with the book Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling, and Everyday math focusing on Coins and Time everyday.

Week Four and Five: I take on full responsibility of the teacher role: planning math everyday, Writer's Workshop  Bend II By Lucy Calkins, my unit on Communities and Being a Ctizen, guided reading centers, Frog and Toad Unit,  and other daily expectations.

The following weeks are as follows plus week 8 is my exploration time.:)

*My duties either have my name by it below or an asterisk
Short, sweet and to the point but boy am I already very busy!

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrifiedbecause of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
